Landini REX 85 S, the “Best of Specialised” Landini’s Rex 85 S wins the battle between rows. So much so, the 82 HP tractor designed to work amongst the crop rows of narrowly planted orchards created by the enterprise located in Fabbrico (RE), was the one to obtain the “Best of Specialised” title at the 2008 Tractor of the Year event, the competition where a selected jury of expert journalists from all over Europe judges and awards the best tractors of the year.
First choice in the challenge faced by the four specialised finalists, Rex 85 S was considered the tractor that complied with specialized farming needs to the greatest extent. The evaluation included decisive parameters concerning the engine, transmission, electronics, hydraulic circuit, degree of comfort in the cab, groundbreaking technical solutions, design, power/price ratio and the number of optionals available.
Rex 85 S, which belongs to the well-known Rex series, was appreciated for its important overall performance: the efficient 4-cylinder Perkins engine, the oil-cooled hydrostatic brakes that act on all 4 wheels, the front axle with epicyclic final drives, the electrohydraulically engaged four-wheel drive and differential lock, the gearbox with its synchronised reverse shuttle and overdrive with 24 forward and 12 reverse speeds (40 kph) or 32+16 speeds with the creeper (40 kph). But the performance of the hydraulic circuit was also considered excellent. It features a triple pump, can be fitted with up to 14 auxiliary hydraulic valves and boasts a 2,600 kg lifting capacity.
When it works between rows, Rex 85 S really shows what it can do. Besides the optimum performance supplied by the components listed above, this specialized tractor is extremely agile and perfectly able to manoeuvre around the narrow rows of orchards. This is due to its limited width (from 1,213 to 1,313 mm, depending on the tyres used), generous steering angle and rounded bonnet shape. In short, the vehicle can drive and move amongst the crops without the slightest difficulty. Thus, Rex 85 S has obtained an important acknowledgement, a recognition of Landini’s achievement for specialised farming but also, and above all, of the commitment that the brand has always dedicated to this demanding segment of the market and the resources, technologies and on-going development plans employed to attain these goals.
